Final Submission - 5 Hero Shots

Final Submission - Strategy Statement

For assignment 02, I am modelling and decaying the Church of Light by Tadao Ando. I have modelled this building in 3Ds Max and then placed it into my CryEngine environment from assignment 01.

In order for the building to sit well in the landscape I had to alter the terrain. I decided to place the building at the top of the island next to a small lake that then cascades over the edge of a cliff. I had to smooth some of the landscape in this location and also raise and lower the terrain in certain areas when the model was imported to make the land level with the door openings and the steps.

The primary element of the building that is failing as time goes on is the concrete. Some of the concrete panels have come off due to the steel structure rusting. This leaves a considerable amount of steel work exposed.

In order to convey the idea of human occupation in the building, I have placed a book on the table at the front of the church. This idea of human occupancy and destruction can be seen more clearly when the building is decayed as there are subtle hints of graffiti and many of the pews inside the church are upturned as if there was a violent event that took place inside the church.

I have made the building decay interactively through the use of flow graphs. A section of the wall collapses as the camera and viewer pass by the side of the church.

Week 13 - Peer Review

Week 13 - Lecture Summary

This week we looked at how textures can be used to create the impression that the building has been decaying for 100 years.

I believe that these programs is where the future of architecture lies. I think that the role of an architect has changed from 2D drafting to 3D modelling and will continue to change and evolve to environments that you can walk around the architecture as we have done in this assignment.

We also looked at the peeling paint tutorial in the lecture. This was the outcome when I tried this tutorial:

Week 12 - Movie Trailers

"Contagion" - 2011

As the title states, this movie is based on a contagious disease that spreads around the world very quickly.
I plan to make this the reason for the lack of humans living 100 years into the future.

"2012" - 2009

I like the idea of having text flashing up on the screen in order to give the audience an idea of the plot line.

"28 Days Later" - 2002

Similar idea to 2012 with the use of text to convey the story. 28 Days Later, however, does this in such a way, with quick shots of film cut between text, that makes the film appear scarier.

"Life Of Pi" - 2012

This trailer uses shots of the islands and the ocean to set the scene. I think I will use shots of the building from further away in order to show context.

"Cloud Atlas" - 2012

I like the use of piano in this trailer that then blends into a more modern track by M83.
