This week in the lecture we began by looking at some of the experiment 01 submissions. Russell spoke about the things that worked well and things that didn't work well in each trailer. He particularly spoke about editing and how the island looked when you looked at it from far away.
We then talked about how different materials are made, e.g. concrete, and how their formation and their construction can shape the way in which the material decays.

week 7 - Sao Paulo Museum
Is primarily constructed of glass and concrete. The building is supported by two main concrete columns, elevating the building off the ground. These columns could potentially crack due to vegetation, weathering and eroding resulting in the possibility of the building falling down at some points.
Week 7 - 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art
The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art by SANAA has glass running around the edge of the building creating a connection between the inside of the building and its context. If the building were to decay, this glass would crack and shatter allowing the vegetation easier access to the inside of the building. As there are internal courtyards in this building, I think vegetation would cause the most damage if the building were left to the elements for an extended period of time.
Week 7 - Church of Light
The Church of Light by Tadao Ando is primarily constructed of concrete and glass. There is a small gap between the slabs of concrete running around the whole perimeter of the church at a height of 3.95 metres. The small gap aligns with the horizontal axis of the large cross and could be the perfect site either for cracking or for vegetation to begin to grow. The floor is made from recycled timber which would be prone to rotting.
Week 7 - Lecture Summary
This week in the lecture we primarily looked at the buildings we can incorporate in to our CryEngine island environments. We also began to explore how buildings would decay over time if people weren't around to provide the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings.
We watch short clips from the TV series 'Life After Humans' which allowed us to grasp a greater understanding about the appearance of the buildings if they were left to the elements for several years. I think this lecture got everyone to begin to think about how they are going to decay their building. The lecture also provided us with some inspiration as to how to best go about doing this project.

Week 6 - Lecture Summary
This week in the lecture, we focused on trailers for both movies and games. We particularly looked at the music and how this accentuated the visual elements of the trailer.
The first trailers made were silent and introduced each character and explained the plot line. As time went on, the trailers told less of the story rather conveying a feeling, mood and atmosphere.
Looking at some trailers and examining the positives and negatives of each and the impact they have on the audience allowed me to make an informed decision on what type of trailer I wanted and the best way to display my island.

Week 5 - Strategy
In my island I am revealing and concealing the letter-number combination 'K-9'. This will be done on a variety of scales ranging from macro to micro. On the macro scale, I have constructed my entire island in the shape of a 'k' with 9 rock stacks off to the side of the island.
On the micro scale, I have used patterns in the environment textures and materials as well as having 9 frogs in the environment.

Week 5 - Lecture Summary
This week we focused on subliminal stimuli. We looked at and discussed constructing elements in our islands that the viewer and user will not be consciously aware of. We looked at artists such as Edward Bernays who demonstrates concepts like these. In our islands we will construct subliminal stimuli in the form of a letter number combination. We looked at creating these subliminal stimuli on several different scales ranging from macro to micro.
